A Superior Frenulum piercing is a piercing through the very thin muscular webbing that connects the upper lip to the upper gum. These piercings are usually done with very small gauge needles (18g or 20g) and the body jewelry worn in these piercings is usually short-length curved or straight barbells or captive bead rings (shown in photo).
Although these piercings can be quite striking in appearance (sometimes only visible when the wearer smiles), there are definite complications associated with eating and possible damage and/or irritation to tooth enamel and gums. Before you consider such a body piercing, consult your body piercer to make sure you have the tissue needed for this, and follow closely all aftercare suggestions to insure rapid and problem-free healing. Healing time: 4 to 12 weeks.
