This video demonstrates what happens when a client faints during a body piercing. Even people that have had body piercings before without a problem can suddenly pass out during a piercing. If you watch closely in this video, the client goes from natural coloring to very pale (you need to take note of the color leaving your client’s face – it’s always the forerunner of fainting). Just after the needle is through, she begins to tip, slipping from consciousness. Only a lucky grab by the piercer keeps this woman from hitting the floor. Even if you prevent the client from falling, they are in a dangerous situation still when they awaken and are disoriented, sometimes they will still have the needle embedded in their skin.
You never know when you’ve got a fainter. Many times a client will tell you they have never fainted in their lives. I had one client that not only passed out but had a series of seizures in the chair for over 30 minutes before he could get up again. Body piercing is not for the faint of heart and is a very serious thing – if you don’t know what you are doing, it’s best left to the pros. And if you are an apprentice piercer, make sure that you don’t make the mistake this guy does and have your client seated in a chair leaning back slightly, so if they do pass out, you don’t risk them hitting the floor.
